How To Prime For The Big Game

For the team sports athlete, priming is a pre-game activation strategy that can help maximize on-field performance. Getting it right can be tricky, so a study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research offers some tips for top competitors to test out during practice.
 
Thirteen high school aged rugby players performed countermovement jumps and bench throws after 4 sets of banded back squats and bench press. Each set was 3 reps. Priming did increase bench throw power, but slightly decreased countermovement jump performance an hour and 45 minutes after completing the warm up protocol.
