Physical Activity’s Impact On Sleep

A good workout will wear you out, and sound sleep is an important component of muscle recovery, but a cause and effect relationship isn’t clear. A study published in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise investigates the effect of high amounts of activity on sleep.

Researchers had 353 American women wear activity tracking devices for 7 days. Total sleep time was also measured. On average, subjects were inactive 8.9 hours per day and experienced 1.1 daily hours of moderate to vigorous activity. The duration and efficiency of their sleep had no correlation to their level of activity.
