Revisiting January 1 Resolutions

Revisiting January 1 Resolutions Now that we're well into 2012, there's a pretty good chance you've lost some of the New Year's Day enthusiasm for ambitious physique goals. That's fairly typical, according to a study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology. Only 64% of New Year's resolutions are maintained after one month. After 6 months, less than half are still committed to meeting their goal.

True Strength Moment: Much of the time, this drop off in participation is the result of setting too broad a goal without considering how it will be achieved. Even saying you'll hit the gym 3 days a week is too generalized. Instead, make a commitment to run 45 minutes on the treadmill Monday after work. Then set a specific goal for the next day's workout. Get busy getting back on track.
