Put More Spring In Your Step

Put More Spring In Your Step Vertical jump height can propel you to success in a number of different team sports. It's a quality that can be elevated through training, and also by footwear selection according to a study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.

After a dynamic warm up, 10 men and 10 women were tested on vertical jump height, depth jumps and a bosco jump test which measures the anaerobic power generated while jumping. For one series of tests, subjects wore tennis shoes. The next day they repeated the tests wearing minimalist footwear, and on the third day they tested in bare feet. Peak power and jump height was greatest in bare feet, with minimalist footwear coming in a close second.

True Strength Moment: While it isn't practical or safe to compete in your bare feet, selecting a very lightweight shoe with the right amount of support might provide you with a slight edge against athletes who aren't as picky about what type of shoes they lace up on game day.
