Feel Good About Fruits & Veggies

Feel Good About Fruits & Veggies Want to feel more calm while at the same time being in a better mood and having more energy? A study published in the British Journal of Health Psychology suggests feeling that good might be as simple as consuming more fruits and vegetables.

Researchers had 281 healthy young adults in their early 20s keep an internet-based food diary for 21 consecutive days. In addition to answering questions about what types of food they ate, subjects were asked to rate how they felt using nine positive and nine negative adjectives. Those who consumed a lot of fruits and vegetables reported feeling calmer, happier and more energetic compared to those who ate lots of process foods.

True Strength Moment: To realize the benefits of these findings, scientists who conducted this study suggest trying to get about 7 to 8 half-cup servings of fruits and vegetables per day. Half a cup would fit in your palm. But if you don't want to be handling your food, try filling half your plate at each meal with fresh fruits and vegetables, and snacking on apples during the day.
