Smart Phone Holding You Back?

Smart Phone Holding You Back? Smart phones combine the features of a telephone, computer, TV and video game system. Because they're so portable, you wouldn't think they'd get in the way of a good workout, but a study published in the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity suggests otherwise.

Survey questions presented to 300 Midwest college students were followed up with fitness and body composition tests on 49 subjects. Those with the highest smart phone usage, up to 14 hours a day, were less fit than students who averaged only 90 minutes of daily smart phone usage.

True Strength Moment: Analysis of the results found that the number of applications available on smart phones contributed to the decline in physical activity. If all your phone does is text and make calls, you won't be tempted to explore adventures in inactive behavior that numerous applications allow.
