Triathletes Are Tougher Than You

Triathletes Are Tougher Than You There's no doubt you have to have a certain level of toughness to take on an Iron Man event. With 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles on a bike topped off with a full 26.2 marathon length foot race, just finishing says a lot about a competitor's perseverance. A study published in the journal Pain suggests triathletes are able to withstand more pain than the average adult.

Researchers tested 19 triathletes who competed in at least two events per year along with 17 non-athletes, defined as adults who exercised but didn't compete. Not only were the athletes able to withstand greater intensities of pain, they could handle it for longer periods of time.

True Strength Moment: There's some truth to the old gym saying 'no pain, no gain'. But that doesn't mean you should push limits until you're hurting. Listening to your body is one of the best ways to remain healthy and active.
