Cardio Day Makes You Tougher

Cardio Day Makes You Tougher Distance running, cycling and swimming have been shown to positively impact cardiovascular health. Now a new study published in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise gives you a very different reason to not skip cardio day. It suggests aerobic training can also dull your sensitivity to pain.

Researchers had 24 healthy volunteers engage in 6 weeks of structured aerobic training or continue on with their relatively inactive lifestyle. Those who exercised rode a stationary bike 3 times a week for half an hour at 75% of capacity. Pain tolerance was significantly reduced in the training group compared to the control condition.

True Strength Moment: As you might expect, aerobic fitness also increased for those who cycled for 6 weeks. Why this helped them better tolerate pain is unclear, but the many advantages of fitness continue to inspire many to become more active.
