Can Music Keep You Focused?

Can Music Keep You Focused? Taking your tunes to the gym can keep you motivated to push harder than you might have without the beat, but a study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine suggests there are positives and negatives to tuning in while running the slopes on a snowboard.

Researchers randomly interviewed snowboarders and analyzed the circumstances of injuries during the 2008 to 2009 and 2009 to 2010 ski seasons at a terrain park in Canada. Of the 1,594 subjects used in the study, 333 were injured. Although 69 of the injured subjects were listening to music while skiing, 425 uninjured subjects were also plugged in. Listening to music while riding a snowboard decreased the chance of getting injured, but increased the odds of an injury being serious.

True Strength Moment: You put everything you've got into every athletic endeavor. For personal safety it's important to keep your head in the game.
