Supplements Filling A Void

A recent survey of 3,300 British citizens conducted by the UK's Health Food Manufacturers' Association found that only 13% of men and 15% of women consumed the recommended 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Perhaps that's why data extrapolated from respondent input showed an estimated 32 million people regularly taking dietary supplements, with multi-vitamins the most popular choice. Of the whole foods regularly consumed, bananas ranked as the most popular fruit and carrots were the top vegetable.

The Bigger Picture: Eating 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day can be a challenge, especially while traveling. It isn't always convenient or possible to take whole foods along with you, so it's good to know that multivitamins and powdered meal replacement mixes can serve as healthy alternatives to salty snacks, fast food and other less-than-nutritious selections.
