One In A Billion Performance

When Abhinav Bindra won Monday's 10-meter air rifle tournament in Beijing, he became India's first Olympic athlete to bring home a Gold medal for individual competition. All previous Gold medals were won in a team sport, men's hockey, between 1928 and 1956. Bindra placed 11th during the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, and finished 7th in Athens four years ago.

The Bigger Picture: Satchel Paige, who Yankees legend Joe DiMaggio called "the best and fastest pitcher I've ever faced," had this to say about perseverance: "Never let your head hang down. Never give up and sit down and grieve. Find another way." Let Bindra's example as a competitor representing a nation of over 1 billion citizens inspire you to reach the next level in your personal quest for betterment.

Medal Tally (as of noon CDT): USA 22 [7 Gold, 7 Silver, 8 Bronze], China 20, South Korea 12, Australia 10, Italy 9
