The British study involved 99 girls between the ages of 12 and 14. Blood samples were analyzed to determine serum levels of vitamin D. Then subjects were asked to perform a jumping test. The girls exhibiting no D deficiency performed significantly better than those who were deficient.

The Bigger Picture: Although this fat-soluble vitamin is found in very few food sources, small amounts can be derived from cheese, eggs, dairy products and cold water fish. Of course, you can always turn to multivitamins for nutritional insurance.
