Don't Let Good Things Pass You By

You're always complaining that you're too busy to go to the gym. It's not that you don't want to lift weights and get all sweaty. There's just not enough time. Researchers from the journal Medicine & Science in Sports and Exercise wanted to find out what could be benefited from a relatively quick and easy workout. So they recruited some overweight college-aged couch potatoes and made them lift weights for 11 minutes a day, 3 times a week. They ended up burning 116 more calories per day than they otherwise would have.

The Bigger Picture: A little more than 100 calories doesn't sound like much. But it amounts to over 700 calories a week, and about 3,000 calories per month. Admit it. You've got 11 minutes a day for exercise. And once you get to the gym, there's no reason not to keep at it for half an hour or more. The greater the effort, the bigger the payoff in terms of fat burned, muscle built and accomplishments realized.
