Gym Teacher's Impact On Fitness

Remember back in elementary school when you hated the way the gym teacher humiliated weaklings and overweight kids? Unfortunately, that's a fairly common experience, and one that can leave lifelong scars. A new study published in the journal Qualitative Research in Sport and Exercise suggests that such behavior can turn people off on fitness forever.

The Bigger Picture: This research found that loosely organized games like floor hockey with the bare minimum of rules and no scorekeeping worked best for helping children explore the full potential of exercise and fitness. It recommended avoiding the rigors of organized sports until the early teen years. That leaves plenty of time for dodge ball.
