Breakfast Fat Burns All Day

There's an old saying that goes "eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper." There may be some truth to this adage, according to a new study published in the International Journal of Obesity. Research conducted on lab mice found that what you eat and when you eat it plays a role in determining your body weight.

Scientists discovered that when the rodents were fed a high-fat meal right after waking up their body responded by turning on fat metabolism, which kept working all day long. When the mice started their day eating carbohydrates, their metabolisms were geared to 24-hour carb-burning instead.

True Strength Moment: Unlike lab rats, humans rarely adhere to regimented eating patterns. But if your first meal of the day programs your metabolism for the rest of the day, athletes and dieters might have an unrealized inner strength to draw on for help with attaining long-term goals.
