Actively Promoting Wellness

It's no secret that regular exercise is good for you. After a workout, you just feel better about yourself. A study published in the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine and Science in Sports suggests that staying really active can actually promote wellness.

A total of 6,465 city workers in Helsinki were asked to complete activity surveys between the year 2000 and 2002. Their answers were then compared to records of sick days. Turns out that 40 to 60 year old workers who were vigorously active showed a reduced volume of sick day absences.

True Strength Moment: Not only did these very active individuals call in sick less often, they tended to perform better on the job. You have a lot of options for being 'vigorously active' so pick a sport or exercise you really enjoy and stick with it. Whether you choose basketball, tennis, jogging or whatever, if it keeps you a step ahead of an illness, it'll be well worth the effort.
