Jump Further For Fitness

In today's Breaking News post at ABBperformance.com, a study examines the relationship between standing long jump performance and overall fitness. As it turns out, this gym class rite of passage is a very practical way to measure whole body strength. A study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research offers a tip on landing further across the gym floor.

Scientists wanted to gauge the effectiveness of mental focus on standing long jump performance. They asked subjects to either focus internally, which translated into extending the knees as quickly as possible, or externally. These outward looking jumpers were told to concentrate on landing as far beyond the line as possible and they managed a small, but significant improvement in distance. About 3 inches.

True Strength Moment: If you don't see an advantage in this scientific study, try reading between the lines. The point isn't how far you can jump across a hardwood floor. It's about focusing your efforts on achieving results. Fix your mind on surpassing a goal, not the effort it's going to take to get there.
