You’ve Got The Beat

Looking for an easy way to get more out of cardio day? A study published in the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sport suggests tuning in catchier tunes. A dozen male students were observed during 25 minute cycling sessions listening to popular music. Scientists varied the tempo, or beat, with 10% increases and decreases from baseline. When the beat was kicked up 10%, subjects went 2% further peddling nearly 1% faster. Even more impressive was the fact that they reported enjoying the workout more at a faster pace.

True Strength Moment: Getting more out of any training session is always a good thing. Enjoying the fact that you're working harder has got to be the gym equivalent to having your cake and eating it too. Except music during exercise helps your burn calories instead of packing them on the way cake will.
