OPTIMUM NUTRITION POWERING ENGLAND RUGBY!
As Owen Farrell’s men look to World Cup glory and the Red Roses stay on track for a Six Nations Win - Optimum Nutrition is delighted to confirm that England Rugby are now official partners to the World’s no.1 Sports Nutrition Brand.
As Official Performance Nutrition Partners the England senior men’s and women’s XVs and sevens squads use Optimum Nutrition’s award winning products to support their performance and recovery. As Official Nutrition Education Partner to England Rugby, Optimum Nutrition will work to co-create a “Good Nutrition for Performance” education programme aimed at community adult age-group rugby players, coaches and parents in England to help them get their nutrition right, focusing on a ‘food first’ philosophy and the value of the supporting role of nutritional supplements.
The programme will be brought to life via a content series that will be published on a digital hub on EnglandRugby.com. Included in the programme will be nutrition plans and advice, game preparation and recovery tips, recipe ideas, toolkits for coaches and information on the role of supplements. Key resources and good nutrition tips will also be made available to the rugby community through the Regional Development Officers and Community Rugby Coaches network.
Dr. Crionna Tobin, Head of Science & Education for Optimum Nutrition believes: “Good nutrition has a real impact on performance and recovery whether you’re playing at an elite level or just for exercise and enjoyment. Optimum Nutrition is delighted to partner with England Rugby on this innovative education programme that aims to share simple nutrition messages for those playing sport and exercise. We will focus on a food first approach and explain where protein supplementation can complement good nutrition to support performance and recovery.”
Dr Simon Kemp, RFU Medical Services Director, commented: “We are delighted to be partnering with Optimum Nutrition and creating an engaging nutrition education hub with them that provides practical nutritional advice to rugby players, coaches and parents. This advice will be consistent with England Rugby’s ‘food first’ policy, but recognises that there are circumstances where the use of selected supplements is appropriate and will aid recovery, reduce injury risk and optimise the effects of training.
Simon Massie-Taylor, Chief Commercial Officer at the RFU commented: “It’s great to announce this new partnership with Optimum Nutrition, a company that has been helping performance focused athletes achieve their goals for over 30 years. Not only will our elite teams have access to the products, but it’s particularly important to be providing this new education programme to our grassroots players and coaches to enable them to get the best nutritional advice from the experts at England Rugby and Optimum Nutrition.”
England Rugby will be joining three of Rugby’s greatest club sides as part of the Optimum Nutrition Team. Leinster Rugby and Saracens may be arch rivals on the European rugby stage, but the Champions Cup and Pro 14 winners Leinster and the English Premiership champions Saracens share one key success factor. Optimum Nutrition is Official Sports Nutrition Partner to both clubs and has been providing performance nutrition support to Leinster since 2010 and to Saracens from 2012. In that time the Clubs have dominated Europe and domestic leagues notching up five European titles and six league wins and bagging the Champions Cup, Pro 14 and Premiership trophies this season between them. Another club with European pedigree, Munster are also partners to Optimum Nutrition.
