Pasta On A Weight Loss Diet

A Mediterranean style diet is supposed to promote healthy eating and potentially contribute to weight management. But pasta has a reputation for adding pounds to your frame. Now an Italian study published in the journal Nutrition and Diabetes questions this popular assumption with an analysis of 23,000 subjects who participated in the Italian Nutrition & Health Survey.

Researchers found that moderate pasta consumption was negatively associated with Body Weight Index in women, but not men. Both men and women who ate pasta in conjunction with a diet rich in vegetables and olive oil tended to have decreased waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio. Higher pasta intake was also associated with greater adherence to the Mediterranean diet.
