Cycle Vs. Treadmill For Fat Burning

Carbohydrates and fat are broken down during exercise to fuel the effort. The type of exercise, duration and intensity along with your level of fitness all factor into how much fat and carbs will be used during a workout. A study published in The Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness provides interesting insight intro maximizing fat utilization.

On separate occasions, 11 recreationally active women in their early 20s cycled on a stationary bike and used a treadmill. During both 30-minute sessions, intensity was increased every 10 minutes. Fat oxidation was greatest on the treadmill, but more carbohydrates were utilized while cycling.
