Dressing For 10K Performance

There are a lot of subtle things you can do to prepare for competition. It might not fall into the category of psyching yourself up, but what you wear might be a factor in how you feel while running a 10 kilometer race. Consider the findings of an interesting study published in The Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness.

On 4 separate occasions, researchers had 6 men and 6 women run race this distance wearing a white or black polyester or cotton t-shirt. Although there weren’t any differences between pace, heart rate or skin temperature, physiological strain was reported as being higher when wearing either color cotton shirt compared to either color polyester shirt. Although performance wasn’t altered, the effort took more out of these athletes.
