HIIT For Hockey Skating Performance
What can you add to pre-season training to better prepare yourself for hockey season? According to a study published in the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research, high intensity interval training (HIIT) might help you improve explosive force by increasing muscle activation.
Fourteen elite female hockey players in their early 20s were tested before and after taking part in 2 ½ weeks of HIIT. Rate of force development increased an average of 15% and static jump height increased 4.8% on average. As impressive as these findings might be, researchers suggest that 2 ½ weeks might not be long for attaining optimal results.
