HIIT Might Boost Brain Power

High Intensity Interval Training is a great option for busy adults who need to time-compress weight room or cardio day workouts, and saving time while building fitness might not be all this approach has to offer. A study published in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise suggests HIIT workouts can give a brain boost to high schoolers.

Researchers divided 65 subjects into 2 HIIT training groups: aerobic and resistance plus aerobic. Both groups trained 3 times a week during the school day for 8 to 10 minutes per session. After 8 weeks, subjects in the aerobic HIIT program showed small improvements in cognitive executive function and psychological wellbeing. Subjects in the resistance plus aerobics group showed a similar improvement in feelings of wellbeing, along with an even greater degree of executive functioning power.
