Physical Attributes Of Elite Rowers
You can train to perform better at any sport, but there will always be physical attributes that can provide a competitive advantage. A study published in The Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness looks into the qualities that make an elite rower.
Analyzing the strength, power and body composition of 115 male rowers participating in the Spanish National Championships, researchers found that high-performing sliding seat rowers tend to have longer legs and a high resistance to fast strength ratio. On the other hand, elite fixed seat rowers tended to have longer arms and demonstrated superior countermovement jumping ability. Being taller was an advantage for both types of rowers.
