Rugby Training Varies By Hemisphere

The training practices of any team will have similarities and differences compared to other teams in their league. A study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research compares the strength and conditioning training of elite rugby teams in the northern versus southern hemisphere.
 
After analyzing responses from 40 international level and professional coaches who completed a questionnaire, it was determined that the main difference amounted to testing methods for determining aerobic capacity and endurance. Coaches in the northern hemisphere tended to place greater emphasis on strength and power development while their counterparts in the southern hemisphere focused more on training integration.
