Beans & Peas Vs. Pork For Satiety
Protein-rich foods like meat help promote satiety, a feeling of fullness dieters can use as willpower support to resist snacking temptations. Food options rich in fiber can also promote satiety. A study by the University of Copenhagen’s Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports put high-fiber beans and peas up against veal and pork. Findings were published in the journal Food & Nutrition.
A group of 43 young men sat down to a meal consisting mainly of patties made from beans and peas or pork and veal. Both dishes contained protein, and the vegetable source provided 12% fewer calories than the meat patties. Both meals were equally satiating, even though the vegetable patties had less protein. The fiber in beans and peas may have made the difference.
