Beetroot Supplementation For Cycling Power
Beetroot juice is a rich source of nitrates which some studies suggest might enhance endurance performance. Recent research published in the International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance investigates the effect on trained cyclists.
Eight male cyclists in their late 20s consumed 70 ml of beetroot juice daily for a week. Placebo examples had the nitrate removed. On the 8th day, they raced a 4 km time trial. Beetroot juice had an unclear +1.8% improvement on oxygen uptake, and helped boost cycling power by an average of 2.4%. Subjects who supplemented with beetroot juice also reduced time to the finish line by 0.7%.
