Caffeine For More Reps To Failure

Caffeine has been shown to promote athletic performance under a variety of conditions. A number of studies have tested its effect on endurance athletes, and now weight room warriors have research to consider. The study was published in The Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness.
 
Fourteen recreational male weight lifters in their early 20s were given 5 mg of caffeine per kg of body weight or a placebo before performing 3 sets on the bench press and leg press. Caffeine helped subjects perform more reps to failure, with 11.6% greater volume on the bench press and 19.1% more reps on the leg press. Caffeinated subjects also reported a higher level of physical and mental readiness.
