Diet & Exercise For Weight Loss

The typical approach to weight loss is to start cutting back on calories. Over time, exercising your willpower like this is likely to produce results. A study recently published in The Journal of Nutrition shows what can be accomplished when a commitment to calorie restriction is boosted by the calorie-burning effects of regular exercise.

Eighty-two men and women in their late 30s were assigned to a diet of 500 to 800 calories per day. Some subjects also walked for 2.5 hours each week. After 12 weeks, subjects in the diet only group lost an average of 15.4 pounds which included 10.5 pounds of lost body fat. Subjects who exercised by walking lost 19.4 pounds including 14.1 pounds of fat.
