HIIT 2 Or 3 Times A Week for Newbies?

High Intensity Interval Training can help you get in a good workout in about half the time it would take with steady state cardio. It can serve as an effective routine for getting in better shape and losing weight. A study of inactive adults published in the International Journal of Sports Medicine looks at what can be accomplished with 2 and 3 HIIT workouts per week.
Thirty-five healthy inactive adults in their early 30s did 10 sets of 1-minute intervals on a stationary bike at approximately 83% of peak power. Some trained twice weekly while the rest did this HIIT routine 3 times a week. After 8 weeks, both programs helped subjects build their level of fitness while reducing waist circumference and thigh cross-sectional area. Three HIIT sections a week had additional health-related benefits including a reduction in total body fat.
