Applying Tape For Muscle Strength
There are a couple of reasons athletes apply tape to certain muscles. Some believe it might help with recovery from intense training or competition. Others apply tape to help work around minor injuries. A study published in the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport looks into the idea of taping for improved muscle strength.
Fourteen athletes (7 males and 7 females) with no knee injuries applied tape to the anterior thigh region. Muscle strength of the quadriceps and hamstring muscles was measured before taping, immediately after taping and 12 hours later. There were no significant differences in muscular power between conditions.
